Your heart rate (HR) is the number of times your heart beats per minute. What the doctor records and cares about is your resting heart rate. Heart rate commonly increases with exercise, exertion, or emotion. These rises are not in general anything to worry about. A “normal” heart rate is often given as 72 beats per minute (bpm).
